Port Sóller
In the lower part of Sóller it can be found the fishing port, where you will see a great deal of sailing boats, and it’s the start of most of the sea excursions. On top of that it is the largest port on the northwest part of Mallorca.
At Sóller port you will find all kind of services, such as restaurants and bars to have lunch and dinner, and also some supermarkets and souvenir shops.
There are also 2 beaches: “En Repic” and “Es Través”, that can be reached by the Sóller tram.
What to see in Sóller
Sóller Train
If we would have to talk about and highlight the main attraction of Sóller, that would be its wooden train that uses early twentieth century machinery and was inaugurated on the 6th of April of 1912 and one of the very few private railways in Spain.
The train goes from Palma to Sóller, passing by Son Sardinia and Buñola. Once in Sóller a connection can be made to go to the Port using the wooden tram.
Along the way you will enjoy the scenery of Mallorca and above all, the orange valley located in Sóller.
The Sóller street market
Every Saturday morning a traditional street market takes place in Sóller main square. At this market fish, fruit, vegetables and even clothes and decorative objects are sold.
All these products come from differents part of the island and gather here to be marketed.
The Botanic Garden fo Sóller and the Sant Bartomeu Church
In the Constitution square you will find the Sant Bartomeu Church, designed by the architect and Gaudi’s disciple, Joan Rubió i Bellver.
You can also find in Sóller the Botanic Garden. The garden was opened in 1992 as a center for preservation, research and and knowledge of the mediterranean flora, especially of the one native to the Balearic Islands.
Hiking
The location of the town of Sóller makes it perfect for the lovers of practicing sports in a natural environment, due to the fact that several hiking and cycling routes can be traversed.
If you would rather use your legs to move through the Tramuntana Mountains, you will find the GR221 route, also known as the “Ruta de Pedra en Sec”. This path travels through some towns of the Tramuntana Mountains and you could also discover the heritage and wildlife of Mallorca in a unique way.
